Atlanta: Then and Now

Atlanta is a unique city, so it is unsurprising that its history is as well. Starting with humble origins as a small village at the end of the railroad line, Atlanta grew in the past 150 years into one of the top ten biggest cities in the US. Paralleling the growth of the city was the growth of the Jewish community, which is now estimated at 120,000. The Jewish people in Atlanta made significant contributions to the city, yet of the rich history of Jews in Atlanta there is little left that commemorates them. This photography exhibition explores the torn down and built-over history of the Jews in Atlanta by revisiting historical places and comparing the past to the present. What remains? What has been lost? And what is there to learn?
